A soundproofing solution was required to minimise noise transfer between studio office spaces and a plant equipment room.
Project Information
The Brief: | Meet G6 regulations while also creating private apartments with an exposed CLT ceiling. |
Structural floor type: | Mass timber (CLT) |
Products used: | PhoneStar, FloorMuffler US and Laminate (8mm) |
A new apartment development by Jalcon Homes wanted to feature exposed Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) ceilings as a key design element. However, they also wanted to ensure their apartments were private and met New Zealand’s G6 building code for acoustic performance.
Projects requiring exposed CLT ceilings present significant acoustic challenges, as few acoustic systems can effectively mitigate sound in these scenarios.
For mass timber mid-floors, increasing mass is essential for effective soundproofing. However, limited space often restricts the use of conventional acoustic solutions.
At only 15mm thick, PhoneStar is a revolutionary soundproofing board designed to reduce both impact and airborne sound, while adding thermal mass to structures. Ideal for mass-timber mid-floors. For this project, PhoneStar was installed on top of the suspended floor system to increase the mass.
