Acoustics weren't part of the original design at Chalfton Street Apartments. Here's how Phonestar Lite solved a retrofit challenge without disturbing the plans.
At the Mascot Street Apartments, all areas of the development featured hard flooring with a combination of SPC and tiles; this made an underlay system essential for tenant comfort and building code compliance.
The timber midfloor, paired with a GBDFA 60b ceiling system, formed the structural backdrop for the acoustic solution. Woodland Acoustics supplied 500m² of Phonestar Lite to achieve G6 compliance across the development, delivering impressive results in an exceptionally slim profile.
In SPC areas, the total acoustic build-up measured just 16mm. Tiled areas came in at 20mm. Both are remarkably thin for a system carrying the performance demands of a fully hard-floored residential development.
The numbers at completion spoke for themselves. On-site acoustic testing recorded IIC ratings of 57dB and above, and STC ratings exceeding 60dB - comfortably surpassing the minimum on-site requirements of IIC/STC 50dB and demonstrating just how much headroom Phonestar Lite delivers beyond compliance.
