CLT mid-floors are inherently more susceptible to impact sound transmission than concrete, making the acoustic system choice very important.

The wet area bathrooms at Metlifecare's Fairway Gardens required an underlay acoustic system that could deliver both acoustic performance for the CLT mid-floor without sacrificing stability, as a firm base was also necessary to maintain the correct floor fall to the drain in the open showers.

The solution was GenieMat RST. 10mm of the acoustical rubber underlay was laid beneath two layers of plywood, Achieving both requirements for acoustic performance while ensuring a firm base for the shower floor.

GenieMat RST10 is a 10mm recycled rubber acoustical underlay with a density of 1000 kg/m³, providing sufficient rigidity to resist deflection while delivering strong acoustic performance, compatible with sheet vinyl and tile used in this project. This system effectively reduced the impact sound transmission through the CLT structure below.
